Senegal – Algeria preview and tips for the Copa Africa final

The action in the Africa Cup of Nations ends today with the big final between Senegal and Algeria. Check the latest Copa Africa tips to consider today.

Senegal – Algeria

– The final is played in Cairo International Stadium, in Egypt.
– In case of a draw there will be extra time and penalty if needed.
– Algeria has 6 wins and 2 draws against Senegal in the previous Copa Africa competitions.
– When the odds are 2.90 the expected chance of winning is 34%, but Algeria actually wins 99% of their matches with these odds.

This is the second Africa Cup of Nations final for Senegal who lost the trophy in 2002.

After saving a penalty and missing one in the regular time, Senegal managed to score (own goal) in the semi-final versus Tunisia and reach the final.

Their record is 5-0-1 in the tournament having lost only from Algeria. Time for revenge, one could easily say. However, Senegal has to step up for the moment and improve in the attacking part of the pitch. Defensively they are very strong but the inspirational defender Kulibaly is suspended.

They reached the final in 1980 and won the trophy in 1990. Twenty nine years later they have the chance to make history again.

Excellent game to watch the semi final against Nigeria, which they beat by 2-1. Mahrez scored the winning goal on the 95th minute. Algeria was the team not happy with the draw and managed to get it in the last moments of the regular time avoiding the extra half hour.

They are on 5-1-0 run in the tournament having also qualified in penalties after that one draw (vs Ivory Coast).

The same starting 11 are expected in Cairo tonight.

I believe the game will ‘pass’ from the scoreline of 1-1 which could easily be interpreted as a BTTS (Goal/Goal) bet. However, I find more comfort with the 2-3 goals bet which is a bit higher than evens.

Copa Africa predictions today – 05/07/2019

The action in Africa continues with the stage of 16 and there are 2 Copa Africa tips to consider today.

Morocco – Benin

Morocco was one of the 3 teams that qualified with an 100% record in the group stage. They cruised through beating Namibia, Ivory Coast and South Africa all by 1-0 and are now considered as 4th favorites to win the trophy. Morocco has 5 consecutive wins against Benin, scoring 19 and receiving just 2 goals. Rotating some of the regular players could prove key for a fresh team appearance and victory tonight.

Benin should be happy to reach the last 16. Anything further this success will have everyone’s expectations exceeded. They will fight for sure having built up on their psychology since they did not lose any of their group matches (3/3 draws). Huddersfield’s star Steve Mounie is suspended which is a massive blow for manager Michel Dussuyer.

Morocco has proved extremely strong defensively and have already scored 3 professional victories. However, this is a knock out game and they have to up their game a bit more, so a 2-0 looks more possible. I’ll go with the 2-3 goals to cover the possibility of a surprise fight and a 1-1 draw.

bullet Tip: 2-3 goals at 2.05 with bet365
(Price correct at 05/07/2019, 11:05 CET)

Uganda – Senegal

Uganda won (2-0, Congo DR), drew (1-1, Zimbabwe) and lost (0-2, Egypt) already in the tournament and were runners up in the group stage. They now have to face one of the strongest teams confirming their improvement as a team during the past years. All 6 of their previous games ended with Under 2.5 goals.

Senegal is the 2ond favorite to win the Cup of Nations. They only lost to Algeria (0-1) in the group stage finishing behind them. In their other two matches they dominated the game versus Tanzania (2-0) and Kenya (3-0). Unbeaten in 5 against Uganda (2-3-0) they have the experience to reach the quarter-finals.

That defeat to Algeria might prove helpful to Senegal that can come out more serious and show their difference of quality to Uganda. With performances similar to the matches they won, they could score 2 or more goals in the game. So, I used the Bet Builder to make my own bet.

Copa Africa predictions today – 02/07/2019

The action in Africa continues and there are 4 more Copa Africa tips to consider today.

Angola – Mali

Two draws for Angola so far against Mauritania (0-0) and Tunisia (1-1). Unbeaen for 5 matches (3 wins), they appear as a strong contestant for qualification. Most probably they will need to beat Mali to make it, but it is not impossible to qualify with a draw. All 4 last games were combined with Under 2.5 goals. They kept a clean sheet in 4 of the last 5.

Mali is on top of the group and want to remain there. With a draw today they confirm qualification either as group winners or runners-up. Both matches in the tournament saw both teams scoring, a 4-1 win against Mauritania and a 1-1 draw vs Tunisia. Angola could prove a difficult opponent and Mali needs to play at its best, so I predict a type of dilemma of giving a rest to some regular players or not.

There will probably be goals in the game including a chance for Angola to find the net. Over 1.5 goal at 1.61 looks good enough to me.

bullet Tip: Over 1.5 goals at 1.61 with bet365
(Price correct at 02/07/2019, 13:00 CET)

Mauritania – Tunisia

Collecting one point against Angola was considered a good result. But good enough. Mauritania will need to exceed expectations versus Tunisia and shock the African continent if they want to be part of the last 16. It is something hard to imagine looking at the way they defend.

Tunisia has been under-performing so far and will look to impress today. Mauritania is the perfect opponent to do so and I do not see this game ending with anything else but an away win. However, scoring 1 in each game is not what you call a team a goal machine.

The final score could be something within a 0-2 and 0-3, so 2-3 goals is my choice.

bullet Tip: 2-3 goals at 2.00 with bet365

Standings provided by Sofascore LiveScore

Benin – Cameroon

To Benin or not to Benin? Tonight we will know the answer. Benin has 2 points after drawing against Ghana (2-2) and Guinea-Bissau (0-0) in two completely different games. In one we saw what Benin is capable of doing (against Ghana, the strongest of the two teams). In the other one Benin wasted heir chances and could not break down the Guinea-Bissau’s defense. Will they do it against Cameroon? Hard…

Cameroon is 1 point away from qualification. They kept a clean sheet in both games in the group, beating Guinea-Bissau (2-0) and drawing against Ghana (0-0). If they stay consistent in the defense it is very possible they will have the chances to gain a second victory and win the group. One point could take them to 2nd place but even a defeat could not be enough to eliminate them.

Benin can prove a stronger opponent than what the odds suggest. I find it hard to bet on the 1X2 markets because the home team is a bit unpredictable. Therefore, another bet on the goals of this match is my pick.

Guinea Bissau – Ghana

Only a win can take Guinea-Bissau in the last 16. They will reach 4 points. This has been a difficult group to survive in for a team like this. They could not compete against Cameroon (0-2), but kept the draw with Benin (0-0). Four of their last five matches ended with No Goal & Under 2.5 goals (and 5/6 of their opponents).

Ghana drew twice. First to Benin, 2-2, and then to Cameroon, 0-0. They’re not yet disappointing since a win here can see them cruise through. Ghana has a long history to keep and winning this game looks like a ‘must’. The Black Diamonds could actually finish on top if Cameroon fail to win. It’s time for proof, they know it too, not just us.

Ghana has a lot to prove but more to play for. I had to combine their win to at least two goals scored so that I get some descent odds to bet on.
