Bayern – Darussafaka

Bayern welcomes Darussafaka to Munich for an exciting encounter on Thursday. The hosts arrive after a narrow loss at Fenerbahce Istanbul in which Devin Booker shined with 15 points and 7 boards. Darussafaka has dropped its last three games, including the last one at Baskonia, in which Oguz Savas and Michael Eric were the only players in double digits with 12 points apiece. This is an important duel for both sides because it means getting back to the winning track, especially for the visitors who currently sit in 14th place.

Bayern has not had the same outcome twice in a row this season, and it would mean that it’s scheduled for a W in Round 6. However, it will take much more than that. Under the boards, the hosts are at a clear disadvantage (28.8 to 38.0) so working on that will have to be a main focus. If that happens, and Booker and Barthel manage to step it up a little more in the paint, Bayern will have a solid chance in this duel.

After losing three in a row, Dacka is in dire need of a win. That could add some pressure to the team. However, with both teams being that close in points and the guests dominating the rebounds, Darussafaka should try to focus on improving its three-point (worst in the league at 27.3%) and free throw (69.0%) shooting.

Maccabi – Real

It will be a classic EuroLeague rivalry when Maccabi welcomes defending champ and still undefeated Real Madrid on Thursday. The hosts arrive from a road loss at FC Barcelona Lassa in which Angelo Caloiaro led the way by 11 points. Madrid soared at Zalgiris with 16 points by Anthony Randolph. The teams come to the game from opposite sides of the spectrum. Maccabi needs to win badly, especially at home. Madrid is in a sweet moment and has shown it can recover from difficult situations.

Many questions surround the Maccabi lineup with Tarik Black’s participation in question, Roman Sessions st to make his debut and Wilbekin expected to play after missing the last game. The first key for Coach Spahija is to have his entire squad available. Maccabi also needs to raise its rebounding (30.8 rpg.) and – especially if the game is close, to make more free throws than the 63.2% it has to date.

The defending champs once again have an overpowering offense, ranked first in scoring (95.2 ppg.) and assists (22.8 apg.) and fourth in three-point shooting (43.7%). Madrid also has incredible depth; team captain Felipe Reyes is 10th on the team in scoring with 6.8 points per game. As long as Madrid uses all its scoring options, Maccabi will have trouble guarding everyone.

Milano – CSKA Moscow

Euroleague predictions

Two teams on the rise meet in Round 6 when Olimpia Milan welcomes undefeated CSKA Moscow on Thursday. Milan has won three games in a row, the last of which came last week against Efes at home by a single point, thanks to Mike James’s 15 points, including the game-winning three on the buzzer. CSKA defeated Olympiacos behind 20 points by Sergio Rodriguez. The duel between these two teams in a sweet moment will surely be one of the highlights of this round. Playing at home could be decisive for Milan, which hasn’t won against CSKA since November 2010.

Milan is in the middle of a winning streak and it is enjoying a very welcome sweet moment after a couple of rough seasons. Coach Pianigiani has put together a solid group that will now face one of its toughest tests in the league: CSKA Moscow. These teams feature the fourth- and third-best offenses in the league, respectively, so they are really close. Milan will rely on the quartet James, Nemanja Nedovic, Vlado Micov and Arturas Gudaitis as always, but it could use an ace up its sleeve like Kaleb Tarczewski or Mindaugas Kuzminskas, two players who can appear at any time to solve a tough situation.

Things are looking good for CSKA. Still undefeated, Coach Itoudis’s team is on another sweet streak. The duel in Milan, however, could become the toughest test so far this season. The numbers between both teams look surprisingly similar on all fronts, so it will all come down to the small details. CSKA probably won’t be able to afford another scoreless effort by De Colo, but that is unlikely to happen again.

Nikita Kurbanov of CSKA has missed the last five games due to an illness.

Gran Canaria – Anadolu Efes

Gran Canaria arrives to this showdown on a three-game losing streak, which it hopes to end in front of its fans. Chris Evans (13.2 ppg.) has been its top scorer until now, followed by Clevin Hannah (11.2 ppg.) and D.J. Strawberry (9.6 ppg.) – three of the team’s four newcomers this season. Efes comes off a heartbreaking, last-second loss in Milan and hopes to bounce back right away. Adrien Moerman has been unstoppable until now (15 ppg., 6.4 rpg.), but Efes also gets strong contributions from Rodrigue Beaubois (11.4 ppg.) and Tibor Pleiss (10.4 ppg., 5.2 rpg.).

Banvit and Pasecniks must try to get Pleiss into foul trouble and then use their size to dominate in the paint. The fact that its three top scorers are newcomers tells us that the core of the team – Albert Oliver, Eulis Baez, Oriol Pauli, Xavi Rabaseda – must step up, especially in front of their fans. Gran Canaria is 15th – out of 16 – in three-point shooting percentage, 29.6%, and must improve those number right away.

Efes is shooting really well from downtown, 48% this season, which leads the league. It must keep running its offense through Vasilije Micic, Beaubois and Shane Larkin and continue circulating the ball like it has until now (18.2 apg.). Efes is 14th in offensive rebounds (8.6 orpg.), so powering the offensive glass for second-chance opportunities is a must for the Turkish side.

Krunoslav Simon is questionable for Efes, while Yigitcan Saybir won’t play in the game.
