Barcelona – Fenerbahce

FC Barcelona hosts Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul in a clash between two EuroLeague powers looking to turn things around. Barcelona started the season in fantastic fashion but has dropped two of its last three games. However, Barca comes off a three-game road trip and will play its next three games at home. Barca is 2-0 at home. Fenerbahce is off to its worst start of the Coach Zeljko Obradovic era and is 0-5 on the road.

It’s a tribute to the Barcelona defense that its opponents have tried the most three-pointers in the league (29.6 per game), but have shot only 33.8% from downtown. If Barca can use its strong perimeter defense, led by former EuroLeague Best Defender Adam Hanga, to slow down Nando De Colo and co., it will boost the team’s chances to keep its perfect home record intact.

Fenerbahce must rebound better to have a good chance to win in Barcelona. Fener is last in rebounding (28.9 rpg.) and second-to-last in offensive rebounds (9.0). Barcelona is second in rebounds (37.5 rpg.) and its 26.0 defensive rebounds per game ignite its dangerous transition game. If Fenerbahce’s bigs – including Derrick Williams, Jan Vesely and Joffrey Lauvergne – can deny Barcelona on the offensive glass and generate a few more fastbreak baskets, it will be in a better position to win its first road game.

Baskonia – CSKA Moscow

KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz will look to bounce back from a rough patch when it hosts reigning champion CSKA Moscow on Wednesday. Baskonia has lost its last two games and three of its last four; but is 2-1 at home. CSKA, which is 3-1 on the road this season, has won its last four games in Vitoria-Gasteiz, including at last season’s EuroLeague Final Four.

The two most important factors in scoring points in basketball are opportunities and efficiency. Baskonia this season has committed the fifth-most turnovers (13.8 per game), has the worst assist-to-turnover ratio (0.98 assists for every turnover) in the league and has the second-lowest free throw shooting percentage (69.6%). To keep pace with CSKA’s might attack, Baskonia must improve all of those numbers, starting with better ball movement and fewer turnovers. Pierria Henry and Luca Vildoza will have to shoulder the burden to improve Baskonia in this area.

Although CSKA is best known for its offense, it has allowed the fewest points in the league this season (72.3 ppg.). What’s more, it’s held opponents to the lowest shooting percentage on three-pointers (31.8%). With such great defense, CSKA’s losses have come when the team’s offense has let it down; CSKA is 5-0 this season when it scored at least 80 points. That number may be the key to beating Baskonia this time.
