Zenit – Real Madrid

Two teams on almost opposite sides of the spectrum will meet for Round 11 when EuroLeague debutante Zenit St Petersburg (2-8) welcomes Real Madrid (7-3) to Russia. Zenit is currently riding a five-game negative streak and will have to start adding wins soon if it wans to keep the playoffs on target. Real is also in the middle of a five-game strek, but in its case the streak is positive. Los Blancos defeated two Russian teams at home in the double week, including defending champ CSKA Moscow, and will look now to complete the trio with a win over Zenit.

Zenit is in dire need of a win as soon as possible, and even if a game against Real Madrid is always a tough challenge, this could be a good chance to kill two birds with one stone: getting a balsamic win and sending a strong message. Zenit has an edge over the guests in assists and steals, so if the hosts play aggressive and fast, they could manage to impose their pace and run away with the win. Real has one of the best offenses in the league and is in a positive dynamic, so defense will be paramount for Zenit if it wants to suceed in this game.

Los Blancos will play their first game in St Petersburg against a wounded opponent. Zenit seems to be struggling big time and the guests almost average 9 points more per game, so they have the offensive edge on their side. Zenit has some of the weakest numbers from beyond the arc in the league, so if Real’s defense manages to push the Zenit shooters away from the rim, it could find a path to its sixth straight win.

Efes – Bayern

Two teams in different dynamics will face off in Round 11 when Anadolu Efes Istanbul hosts FC Bayern Munich on Friday. Efes is riding a four-game winning wave and it seems nothing can stop last season’s runners-up. Efes won its two games on the road during the last double-round week including a huge win in Milan. On the other hand, Bayern has lost four of its last five games and dropped its last one at home against Panathinaikos. The hosts will look to retain a share of first place at least, while the visitors try to get back on the winning path as soon as possible.

Efes seems to have found its rhythm again this season despite missing a few key players in the last games. Now back in Istanbul, the team will play against a team that is going through a tough phase. Efes has better numbers on offense and defense than Bayern and its main concern on defense should be Bayern’s third-best figure in the league from beyond the arc (40.2%). If the hosts manage to keep the offensive juices flowing and stop Bayern’s long-range shooters, they will be on their way to extending their winning streak.

Adrien Moerman and Bryant Dunston won’t be available against Bayern.

Despite a consistent start to the season, Bayern seems to have found some difficulties in the last few weeks. A visit to Efes doesn’t look like the best way to start a recovery, but the German champs have no other choice if they want to get back on the winning track. The visitors dominate the three-point shooting and the blocked shots numbers over Efes, so they will have to step up and do many more things well in Round 11 if they want to win in Istanbul. The top priority should be stopping the hosts’ guards Shane Larkin and Vasilije Micic, the main creators for Efes.

Olympiacos – Milano

It is a battle between three-time EuroLeague champions. Olympiacos caught some fresh air with a road win against ALBA Berlin and will try to win consecutive games for the first time this season. Milan comes off its first home loss of the season and will try to erase that with a victory. Georgios Printezis (12.1 ppg.) has been Olympiacos’s top scorer until now, followed by Nikola Milutinov (10.3 ppg., 9.7 rpg.) and Brandon Paul (10.0 ppg.). Sergio Rodriguez (15.2 ppg., 6.0 apg.), Luis Scola (12.4 ppg.) and Vladimir Micov (12.1 ppg.) have led Milan so far this season.

Olympiacos is struggling to score this season, averaging 76.6 points per game mainly because of its poor three-point shooting percentage. Olympiacos is averaging 32.6% from downtown (17th overall) so it is up to its best shooters – Brandon Paul, Vassilis Spanoulis, Kevin Punter and Kostas Papanikolaou – to increase those figures. If Milan is still without Arturas Gudaitis, Olympiacos will have a size advantage in the paint with Milutinov, so finding him around the basket will be critical for the Greek powerhouse.

Milan has been deadly from three-point territory, averaging 43.8% from downtown, but has struggled inside the arc, ranking 17th overall with a 46.5% two-point shooting percentage. Milan will look for a more balanced offense. Getting Sergio Rodriguez and Nemanja Nedovic to set the right tempo and thus allowing all Milan scorers to get involved is very important against a five-on-five offense team like Olympiacos, so expect the battle for the game rhythm to be critical.

Barcelona – CSKA Moscow

Two of the most decorated teams in continental basketball meet again at Palau Blaugrana. Barcelona leads the standings and is undefeated at home. CSKA lost its last three road games and sees this showdown as the perfect opportunity to bounce back. Nikola Mirotic (18.5 ppg.) has been Barcelona’s best scorer until now, followed by Cory Higgins (14.1 ppg.) and Kyle Kuric (10.1 ppg.). Mike James (19.1 ppg., 4.5 apg.), Darrun Hilliard (11.7 ppg.) and Janis Strelnieks (8.7 ppg.) have led CSKA so far this season.

Barcelona has turned into one of the best-scoring teams in the EuroLeague this season (84.4 ppg.) and leads the competition in rebounds (37.6 rpg.). Dominating the defensive boards (26.2 drpg.) has allowed Barcelona to play fluently on offense, shooting the ball with good percentages (53.1% 2FG, 39.7% 3FG). As usual, running its offense through Nikola Mirotic, Cory Higgins and Brandon Davies will be critical, but for Coach Svetislav Pesic’s team, it all starts with defense.

In the opening eight games of the season, CSKA scored 50% of its two-point shots. In the last two games, however, CSKA has made just 28 of 82 shots inside the arc (33.7%). Being more effective around the basket is critical for CSKA, as it is powering the glass well (11.4 orpg.). CSKA ranks second in three-point shooting percentage (41.6%) and that will help spread the floor and create better scoring chances down low.

Will Clyburn and Dmitry Kulagin are still out with respective injuries.

basketball prediction Tip: Winning Margin 3-way: Any other result (any team 1-5 points win) at 2.90 with bet365
