France v Romania preview and tips

Hosts France take on Romania in opening game of UEFA EURO 2016. Five out of seven of the last Euro premieres have finished with under 2.5 goals. In four of these cases, the correct score of 1-1 was repeated.

The two teams met on the 10th June at EURO 1996 – exactly 20 years to the day before this encounter.

France has only been playing friendly matches in the past two years. They last won the European Championship back in 2000.

Didier Deschamps saw central defenders Sakho (suspended) and Varane (injured) coming out of the selections early. He has a strong squad though and his team is considered favourites of the tournament, probably because of playing at home.

Possible line-ups
France: Lloris; Sagna, Rami, Koscielny, Évra; Pogba, Kanté, Matuidi; Griezmann, Giroud, Payet.

Romania came second in their group getting a deserved qualification. They had the best defence in all the groups receiving only twice (2). Anghel Iordănescu is one of the most experienced coaches between the 24 and said that his team is up against one of the best teams in Europe.

Possible line-ups
Romania: Tătăruşanu; Săpunaru, Chiricheş, Grigore, Raţ; Hoban, Pintilii; Popa, Stanciu, Stancu; Keșerü.
